In less than three weeks, New Delhi will bring together legal practitioners, researchers, advocates, and policymakers for an intensive two-day training program on child rights law and advocacy in India, taking place on 13 and 14 August 2026 at National Law University Delhi.
Co-organised by the NLUD Chair on Justice for Children (in collaboration with UNICEF) and ICJA, with the pro bono support of Baker McKenzie, the programme responds to a clear need: India has built a progressive legal architecture for child justice, yet significant implementation challenges persist. Delays in justice delivery, the absence of consistently child-sensitive procedures, and critical gaps in advocacy continue to impede the full realisation of children’s rights in practice.
The programme addresses these challenges through four discussion panels covering some of the most pressing debates in Indian child justice today: adolescent love and the law; the trial of children as adults; the right and reality of speedy trials; and interagency coordination in safeguarding child rights. Alongside these panels, participants will engage in immersive skill-building sessions using simulation exercises and practical tools for child-sensitive advocacy and legal representation.
The response has been remarkable. Over 100 applications have already been received, reflecting the depth of interest and expertise in this field across India and beyond. Full details of the program, including confirmed speakers, are now available on the event website.
