New ICJA Op-Ed: Closing the Justice Gap for Children

ICJA is pleased to announce the publication of a new op-ed, “Closing the Justice Gap for Children,” co-authored by Mariana Pérez Cruz and Cédric Foussard, and published by Salzburg Global.

The piece highlights an urgent message at the core of ICJA’s work: justice for children cannot wait. Drawing on years of collaboration with Salzburg Global and its Global Innovations on Youth Violence, Safety, and Justice Program—supported by the MacArthur Foundation, the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation, and the David Rockefeller Fund—the article stresses the need to bring child-centred, preventive, and equitable approaches to the forefront of justice reform.

The op-ed calls for:

  • Preventive justice that places children’s voices, choices and dignity at the centre.
  • Cross-sector collaboration between justice, education, health, social care and community systems.
  • Data-driven and equity-focused action capable not only of identifying disparities but actively dismantling them.

This work builds on insights gathered during the World Congress on Justice With Children in Madrid, where the partnership with Salzburg Global enabled the participation of a dozen global and Asian human rights activists.

ICJA will return to Salzburg in December, continuing this collective reflection and strengthening global alliances committed to advancing justice for children.
